As winter approaches and the clouds make the streets a little dull, don't let your hair color take the same path. Head colorist Michael Kelly at Oscar and Oscar, Paddington talks his color trend predictions for autumn/winter 2012.

Smokey blondes - nordic blondes with subdued earthy tones are going to be a dominant color of choice for woman that want there deeper blonde to appear like a full color. But with closer inspection you see the glistening of the tones, creating variation and softness. Use words like "mushroom, beige and pale tan", it will help your colorist in shade selections.





Buttery Blondes- blondes with warmth can sparkle away when the sun is nowhere to be seen. Ask your colorist to introduce tones of honey and creamy gold with lowlights of biscuit and sandy blonde. You may be a little hesitant at first, but these tones suit most complexions and can add a glow that your skin may have lost. Light and shade can also give volume to fine textured hair.

Brunettes with intensity- Brunette hair can lose luminosity if it doesn't have the right shades within. My tip is to bring some color into your base, ask your colorist for micro-weaves, a technique where the highlight weaves are finely picked, creating subtle hues of color and shine similarly found in children's hair. Also, ask for a more finesse balayage to finish the look, a gentle application of this lightening method can lengthen out your brunette. Graduating seamlessly from root to tip. Request shades of golden chestnut, woody brunettes with mahogany undertones and deep coffee bean.





Copper, red heads and strawberry blondes will be relieved by the coming seasonal change because this is your time to truly glow. Get your colorist to brighten  your mane and go for a more intense color choice, as we know (and if you didn't) red is the quickest color to fade, as the sun oxidizes color. Ask your colorist to do a skin and eye analysis and find your skin tone. Warm skin tones will suit rich golden coppers, rustic auburn reds and brighter strawberry blondes, cooler skin tones will suit cherry reds, pinky reds and tones of dusty apricot.
